Why Google Base ?

Google recently launched another publishing tools called the Google Base.

It is quite similar to a blog except that from its description where it states "Got something you want the world to see? Google Base is Google's database into which you can easily submit all types of content. We'll host your content and make it searchable online."

It seems like Google is trying to guarantee the SEO part this time around. Which means that SEO experts will be out of job soon ?

Then, if you look at the following descriptions regarding items to be published for Google Base:

- Description of your party planning service
- Articles on current events from your website
- Listing of your used car for sale
- Database of protein structures

This actually shows that it is meant for ad-hoc and non-blogging user.

Perhaps Google Base was erected to solve the following problems:
1. Unindexed good contents.
2. Make non-blogger a publisher as well.
3. Ad-hoc tools - something like creating an advertisement on the fly.

These Google Base, which is currently in its beta, is not meant to provide competition for blogs. Rather, it is actually to help bridge the world between non-blogger and the publishing excitement of the Internet.

It is a much simple tool compared to Weblog. Such can be witnessed from:
1. Simple publishing process (one page)
2. Simple editor (no WYSWYG)
3. No other options like site feeds, archiving and etc.

The best part about it is that it also provides a homing URL such as:

http://base.google.com/base/a/brandonteohno1

However, I tried to access the URL above but it didn't work. What is happening ?
