Technology Park Malaysia Selects Juniper Networks for State-of-the-Art Campus Network

Juniper Networks announced that Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (TPM) has deployed Juniper products and services in a total revamp of its campus network. This will help TPM attract additional tenants and enable it to generate new revenue streams by offering more application hosting, system management and network services.

TPM, Malaysia’s premier technology park, is accessible to all major universities and research institutions and is currently home to over 160 technology-based companies. TPM offers approximately two million square feet of incubation and business commercialization R&D space and about 400 land parcels for supporting innovative technology based-companies in engineering, information and communications technology, and biotechnology. The company's strategy is to use IT infrastructure as a competitive tool to attract and retain local and foreign entrepreneurs.

“We embarked on our latest IT infrastructure enhancement project to build a world-class campus network, enabling us to provide tenants and strategic partners with a range of high-value, network-based services delivered in compliance with ITIL framework standards,” said YBhg Dato’ Hj. Mohd Azman Hj. Shahidin, president and chief executive officer of Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn. Bhd. “After careful consideration of multiple proposals we selected Juniper’s solution, which combined best-in-class technology with easy management, reasonable pricing and strong support. Implementation of the Juniper solution has delivered a rapid improvement in enterprise-level performance, making IT a strategic enabler for the company.”

During the project implementation by Comintel Sdn. Bhd., a Juniper Elite Network Infrastructure partner, legacy ATM switches in TPM's core network were replaced with Juniper Networks® MX480 3D Universal Edge Routers, which were also deployed in the distribution layer, while MX240 routers are now used for Internet routing.

The co-location data center has been equipped with redundant Juniper Networks EX8208 Ethernet Switches, delivering the port densities, non-blocking performance, scalability and high availability required by the most demanding high-tech clients.

Together with Juniper Networks EX4200 Ethernet Switches deployed within each campus building, the MX480 and MX240 routers and EX8208 switches form a high-performance, highly-resilient and highly-secure MPLS infrastructure. Juniper Networks EX3200 Ethernet Switches, meanwhile, provide TPM's tenants with thousands of power-over-Ethernet LAN ports within its campus buildings.

Almost every network device on the campus – including Juniper Networks IDP8200 Intrusion Detection and Prevention Appliances and a STRM 2500 Security Threat Response Manager – run the Junos® operating system, enabling TPM to benefit from lower network operation costs and integrated network and security management, controlled through Juniper Networks NSMXpress Appliance.

The expandability and virtualization capabilities of the Juniper Networks NetScreen-5400 co-location firewalls enable TPM to operate as a managed service provider (MSP) without the need for additional systems. In addition, Juniper Networks SA6500 VPN Appliances, operating in MSP mode, provide remote access for TPM's tenants.

“Technology Park Malaysia is competing in the top tier for hi-tech tenants on a worldwide basis and that's a real challenge for a property company,” said Wan Ahmad Kamal, Managing Director of Juniper Networks Malaysia. “With the deployment of a next generation carrier-class campus infrastructure based on Juniper, TPM is now fully equipped to operate as state-of-the-art MSP and can offer both internal and external clients a full suite of shared and managed services.”
