12TH INTERNATIONAL COMMON CRITERIA CONFERENCE (12ICCC) IN KUALA LUMPUR SET TO RAISE QUALITY ASSURANCE LEVEL IN INFORMATION SECURITY EVALUATION AND CERTIFICATION

CyberSecurity Malaysia, an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), will be hosting the 12th International Common Criteria Conference (12ICCC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 27 - 29 September, 2011.

The 12ICCC is a significant and eagerly anticipated event by the global IT security industry as it serves as a strategic platform that facilitates valuable knowledge sharing among the region’s top technology security experts from various established certification bodies and evaluation laboratories.

The three-day conference has attracted an impressive line-up of more than 70 speakers from all over the world. Some of the world’s most renowned chief technologists, policy makers, and product developers will converge to exchange policies and ideas on the specification, development, evaluation and certification of IT security products.

The 12th International Common Criteria Conference offers a balance of highly informative keynotes, valuable technology and industry insights, and interactive technical sessions. Among the key highlights of this year’s conference include keynote addresses by Andras Robert Szakal, IBM’s Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and David MacFarlane, Director of Security Certification from Research In Motion (RIM). There will also be a prestigious award ceremony honouring participants and certified product vendors during its Gala Dinner on 28 September 2011.

“We are pleased to announce that over 200 distinguished IT certification experts from North America, Europe as well as within Asia Pacific region will be gathering at this year’s conference. The 12ICCC aligns with Malaysian Government’s objective to facilitate and promote the growth of quality IT products in the country. This forum will be a catalyst for Malaysian ICT companies to work towards enhancing their technical knowledge through exchange of innovative ideas and valuable experience with global participants,” said Lt Col Prof Dato’ Husin Jazri (Retired), Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Common Criteria (CC) is recognized as ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standard ISO/IEC 15408 (Information technology -- Security techniques-- Evaluation criteria for IT security). It is regarded as the international benchmark for IT security evaluation criteria which addresses product functionality, development environment, documentation, and product testing measures.

Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA) is an International group that is active in supporting the standard security evaluation and certification. CCRA creates value for ICT product vendors by allowing them to conduct an evaluation of their ICT product in one participating country and have the result recognized across all participating countries in CCRA.

“Malaysia has been an active CCRA Consuming Participant member since 2007. We have submitted an application to the committee to be recognized as an Authorizing Participant member during 12ICCC. Should the application meet with the committee’s stringent approval process, Malaysia is set to join an elite group of nations including USA, Japan, France & UK to be able to operate CCRA approved certification schemes,” said Dato’ Husin.

The 12th International Common Criteria Conference will be held at OneWorld Hotel, Petaling Jaya from 27th to 29th September 2011. For further enquiries on conference program and registration, kindly visit http://12iccc.cybersecurity.my/contact.html
