June 28, 2013 - Symantec 2013 Windows Server 2012 Migration/Virtualisation Survey

Symantec's Windows Server 2012 Migration/Virtualisation Survey found that 18% of businesses have virtualized at least 3/4 of their IT environments; 52% of these will likely take the plunge into full virtualisation within the next two years.

93% haven't actually migrated to Windows Server 2012 yet; 43% have plans to migrate only after 6 months later or more.

One significant factor that is keeping people from making the transition is the cost of the upgrade, and some businesses are slow to make the change because their current version is getting the job done. And with IT complexity increasing, there are also concerns about compatibility issues with current hardware or software.

The pros of Windows server 2012 include:
  • virtual desktop infrastructure
  • Hyper-V server virtualization
  • ReFS file system - improves scalability and resource management
