Shanghai joins Tata Comms' global Telepresence network via Partnerships

New York & Mumbai, June 4th 2013 - Tata Communications today announced the addition of a state-of-the-art “virtual meeting” Telepresence suite to its global network, situated in the heart of downtown Shanghai. Launched in partnership with China Mobile and JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai, the new in-hotel facility located within the 5* luxury JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai Tomorrow Square, provides participants a life-sized, high definition and immersive virtual collaboration experience.

Business communications has seen an incredible transformation over the last 10-15 years. Whilst video conferencing’s reputation may have suffered a bit of a bumpy start in the early days due to quality, usability and accessibility issues, thanks to advancements in communication infrastructure, hardware and reach, the use of video in business is booming. In fact, according to Infonetics Research, sales of enterprise telepresence and video conferencing equipment will maintain steady growth through to 2017 at a compound annual rate of six per cent.

Organisations looking to improve business communications for employees, partners and customers worldwide require business video that is reliable, high in quality, affordable and offers broad reach. To encourage pick-up at the individual user level, accessibility and ease of use are some of the key factors when business executives choose a particular communications method.

To make true seamless business communications possible, Tata Communications does not only operate the world’s only fibre optic sub-sea network ring around the world that effectively supports the explosion in video network traffic, it is also working with leading industry partners, including AT&T, Telstra and Etisalat as part of the Global Meeting Alliance to broaden its ecosystem and provide customers access to high-quality video communications wherever they are. Today, Tata Communications runs one of the broadest and widest-reaching Telepresence networks available in the form of its Global Meeting Exchange™ Telepresence inter-exchange. As part of this, Tata Communications offers access to public Telepresence rooms in over 40 locations across five continents, with the JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai Tomorrow Square having very recently joined the network.
