Sophos Boosts Network Security Performance with SG Series Appliance

Sophos today announced a major market refresh of its network security gateway hardware in Malaysia to capitalize on and further advance, increases in new customer business for Sophos unified threat management (UTM) appliances.

Running on 4th generation Intel® Core™ processors, the Sophos SG Series appliances deliver up to four times the speed of the previous UTM generation appliances, bringing flexibility and simplicity to security for small and medium businesses (SMBs) and mid-market organisations.

Gerhard Eschelbeck, Sophos, CEO

“SMBs in Malaysia increasingly ride on technology trends such as bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and cloud computing for productivity, while mid-sized organisations struggle with data overload and not knowing what security solutions best fits their needs,” said Gerhard Eschelbeck, Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President at Sophos. “Such technologies introduce new attack vectors and security risks for SMBs and mid-sized organisations, as their security management and awareness remain nascent. The new Sophos SG Series will prove to be a good return-on-investment, as it is not only affordable, makes up for their lack of IT expertise and saves time with easy and flexible deployment.”

Sophos also announced that it has once again been positioned in the “Leaders” quadrant of Gartner, Inc.’s August 7, 2014 "Magic Quadrant for Unified Threat Management." Sophos is the only IT security company to be positioned as a Leader across three critical security areas: Unified Threat Management (UTM), Mobile Data Protection and Endpoint Protection Platforms. “We believe it is a privilege to receive recognition from Gartner. The momentum in our UTM business is truly exciting,” said Joon Hoong Wong, Malaysia Country Manager for Sophos. In the most recent quarter of trading, April to June 2014, Sophos recorded a 27 percent increase in UTM sales, and a 33 percent increase in new customer business for UTM. This demonstrates the significant share gains the company is making.
