PR - Oct 23, 2014 - MDeC Extends the National Digital Economy to drive Inclusive Growth

On behalf of Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), we would like to share a news release on the announcements made by Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak at the 26th MSC Malaysia Implementation Council Meeting (ICM) today. Among the announcements made today were Digital Malaysia initiatives led by MDeC to further extend benefits of the national digital economy to the Bottom 40% of the income pyramid (B40) and deepen the economic impact of niche segments.

At the same event, MDeC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (PIKOM) to jointly host the prestigious 22nd World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) here in year 2020.

The first initiative is to enhance the standard of living of the B40 community by accelerating existing efforts under Digital Malaysia to help the poor earn new income via crowdsourcing. This initiative will be rolled out across multiple Digital Work Centres and repurposed telecentres to impact rural and urban low-income households.

The second initiative is to spur public sector excellence with Digital Government Transformation.

Pikom - Oct 21, 2014 - PIKOM Announces New CEO And COUNCIL 2014/15

During its 28th Annual General Meeting, PIKOM’s Chairman, Mr Cheah Kok Hoong announces Mr Woon Ching Ming (CM Woon) as the new Chief Executive Officer at PIKOM and the new Council termed for 2014/15 to support the association in achieving stronger growth for the local ICT industry.

The AGM 2014 also sees the launch of PIKOM's individual membership for over 400,000 ICT professionals in Malaysia as a platform for them to gather and share their ideas among each other.

Ovum - Oct 21, 2014 - Developed Asia trumps Europe in the world’s first integrated fixed and mobile fast broadband development index

Norway is the only major European country to make it into the top 10 global markets in the Broadband Development Index*, a new service launched by global technology research and advisory firm Ovum to track the take-up of high-speed fixed and mobile broadband services in 191 countries.

TOP 10 AND BOTTOM 10 COUNTRIES IN 2014 AND 2019

The Asian markets of South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan currently occupy the top four spots for end-2014 in the Broadband Development Index. Ovum expects these to retain their positions over the next five years. The US ranks 8th, thanks largely to the success of its early LTE rollouts, but will fall back to 13th by 2019.

Cisco launching a worldwide Internet of Things World Forum (IoTWF) Innovation Grand Challenge for young women. According to Albert Chai, Country Manager for Cisco in Malaysia, the IoTWF Young Women’s Innovation Grand Challenge complements the recent tabling of Malaysia 2015 Budget which sees the potential in growing and supporting this untapped workforce through the allocation of RM 50 million in financial assistance for young women entrepreneurs and professionals in the nation.

The IoTWF Young Women’s Innovation Grand Challenge is a global open innovation competition. The IoTWF Steering Committee intends to collaborate on this initiative with local organizations with support from a global network of companies in the IoT space, non-profits dedicated to women in STEM and Cisco IoE Innovation Centers.

Entrants will be asked to submit original ideas based on new opportunities and technologies that better people’s lives or increase efficiencies in the area of education, healthcare, manufacturing, energy, retail, transportation, or smart cities.

The IoTWF Young Women’s Challenge will run in two phases from November 15th 2014 through early 2015.

PR - Oct 14, 2014 - Tata Comm. and PCCW Global join forces to expand global network capabilities for video and data

Tata Communications, a leading provider of A New World of Communications™, and PCCW Global, the international operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, have signed a high definition video conferencing (HDVC) interconnect agreement to interconnect the two companies’ IPX and MPLS networks via a Network-to-Network Interface (NNI). This will allow both companies to offer global enterprise customers enhanced network data services and the highest quality HD video conferencing capability.

This bilateral HDVC interconnect agreement is the first of its kind in the Asia Pacific region. PR - Oct 14, 2014 - VMware and NVIDIA Announce First Participants in Tech Preview of NVIDIA GRID vGPU

Airbus Group, CH2MHILL and MetroHealth are among the first companies to join VMware and NVIDIA's early access program to try the latest technology for GPU virtualisation and virtual application and desktop infrastructure, ahead of its general availability.

Customers selected to participate in the early access program have deployed a technology preview of the solution.
