One of the key findings shows that, as multi-device surfing grows, mobiles remain central to consumers’ internet experience, with well over three quarter’s (80%) of Malaysian mobile users preferring to surf with their mobiles.

As smartwatches have impacted the marketplace in 2015 BuzzCity investigated how smartwatch devices, which are typically paired with a smartphone, are most used within its network. Ironically the original function of the watch – to tell the time – is relegated into 5th place (global results are seen tally with Malaysian usage).

PR - Jul 8, 2015 - Brocade SDN Solutions Drive Virtutel Toward The New IP

Australia-based wholesale data and voice service provider Virtutel – which services Asia from its Singapore presence, will deploy Brocade® SDN-ready switches and routers for networking infrastructure to support the New IP, to deliver its services through system integrators, IT consultants, and managed service providers. The Virtutel Network provides private network, Internet, colocation, and voice services for business, enterprise, and government segments as part of its “Global Network” strategy.

Virtutel has started its migration by deploying Brocade ICX® Ethernet switches and Brocade NetIron® CER 2000 routers to provide network access and IP/MPLS backbone connectivity at its PoP sites, as part of a phased implementation plan. When business growth demands it, Virtutel will deploy Brocade MLX® routers, enabling a seamless operational model. Across-the-board support for the OpenFlow 1.3 Software-Defined Networking (SDN) protocol was a key element in Virtutel’s decision to migrate to the Brocade solutions.

“IT used to be the drivers of corporate innovation and value, and every IT department wants to meet the changing and growing needs of users. They want to deliver a platform for fast innovation on which to build a competitive digital business, just as the cloud providers do today. The same aspiration holds true for traditional service providers. Unfortunately, the reliance on legacy network architectures makes this difficult. Many even say that the old architecture is what is holding them back,” said Sean Ong, Brocade Country Manager for Malaysia. “The New IP enables organizations to transform their infrastructure and business to achieve revolutionary results. It is the dramatic change that is needed, ensuring that networks are reimagined for a modern world and meet the needs of cloud, social, and Big Data. This move to Brocade will provide a much more agile network for Virtutel,” he said.

Juniper Research - Jul 7, 2015 - Traffic from Mobile & Online Messaging to Reach 438 Billion per Day by 2019

New data from Juniper Research has shown that mobile and online messaging traffic will reach 160 trillion per annum by 2019, up from 94.2 trillion this year – equating to approximately 438 billion messages sent and received by users on a daily basis by 2019. These figures incorporate SMS, MMS, IM (Instant Messaging), Social Media and Email.

The research – Mobile & Online Messaging: SMS, RCS & IM Markets 2015-2019 – observed that the negligible cost of IM services had led to significant migration from SMS. It noted that service providers such as Tencent’s QQ, WhatsApp and WeChat now had more than 400 million active users, with WhatsApp reporting in excess of 30bn messages sent per day.

research found that enterprises continued to regard A2P SMS as more reliable and secure than IM for services such as verification and notification, driving A2P revenues to more than $70bn by 2019, up from $62.8bn this year.
