PR - Jun 29, 2016 - Dimension Data and A.S.O Unveil Next Gen. Tech. & App for Tour De France

Dimension Data and Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.) today announced significant enhancements to the big data cycling analytics platform that will deliver real-time information to viewers, commentators and teams at the 2016 Tour de France.

Headlining the innovations is Race Center, a web-based application hosted on Dimension Data’s cloud platform and developed in partnership with A.S.O. that combines live race data, video, photographs, social media feeds, and race commentary which combines with a new live tracking website to give viewers an immersive digital experience that goes beyond the television coverage of the race.

Race Center will become A.S.O.’s digital hub of the Tour de France going forward. And the Live Tracking website is testament to the evolution of Dimension Data’s real-time big data collection, analytics and digital platforms over the past 12 months. Viewers will be able to get far richer and more accurate information from each of the 198 riders in 22 teams, including speed, distance between riders, composition of the race pelotons, wind speed and direction, as well as prevailing weather conditions.

Ahead of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin's State visit to China starting on June 25th, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, who also leads the China-Russia Investment Committee from the Russia side, paid a dedicated tour to LeEco in Beijing on June 24th and tried the internet and technology conglomerate's ecosystem products, including the most renowned LeSEE electric car, Superphones, Super TVs, VR headsets and others. Recently, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) sponsored AngelHack KL 2016, Malaysia’s tech ecosystem’s largest hackathon event. This year’s 24-hour hackathon, held on 4th and 5th June at Berjaya Times Square, witnessed 370 participants, a whopping 25 per cent increase from last year.

MDEC worked with iProperty to sponsor the release of 65 million rows of user behaviour data as well as property transacted pricing data which saw 20 data-driven applications being developed. As the lead agency responsible for driving Malaysia’s digital economy, MDEC is always on the lookout for opportunities to collaborate with government and private sectors to nurture, bring out and enhance the young Malaysian talent pool in the digital technology industry.

The innovation theme this year was Online to Offline (O2O) Commerce, Big Data Analytics and Smart Living. This year’s event was also the very first hackathon in Malaysia to be held in a shopping mall to allow public viewing. IBM Security today announced the results of a global study analyzing the financial impact of data breaches to a company’s bottom line. Sponsored by IBM and conducted by the Ponemon Institute, the study found that the average cost of a data breach for companies surveyed has grown to $4 million, representing a 29 percent increase since 2013.

Cybersecurity incidents continue to grow in both volume and sophistication, with 64 percent more security incidents reported in 2015 than in 2014. X-Force IBM Cyber Security Intelligence Index, April 2016 As these threats become more complex, the cost to companies continues to rise. In fact, the study 2016 Cost of Data Breach Study: Global Analysis, June 2016 found that companies lose $158 per compromised record. Breaches in highly regulated industries were even more costly, with healthcare reaching $355 per record – a full $100 more than in 2013.
