Universal Robots To Boost Industrial Uptake Through Newly Launched Application Showroom

PR - Jan 15, 2016 -

Universal Robots (UR), a global developer and manufacturer of flexible and user-friendly industrial robots is embarking on a project involving their Singapore-based distributor, Skymech Automation & Engineering (SKYMECH) to develop industrial robot applications that will showcase the ways in which small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can benefit from automation in the form of these robotic solutions.

UR vision pick & place application case study

With the support of two Singapore government agencies, UR is actively spearheading the expansion of the current range of robot applications with SKYMECH. The first two applications that are being developed include “vision pick & place” as well as “machine tending”, which are commonly used in the Precision Engineering (PE) sector. The development of these applications increases the accessibility of SMEs to robotic technology and closes the gap between system integrators and UR’s customers.

In addition to robotic applications, UR is also building a knowledge-sharing platform to encourage the facilitation of information such as technical knowledge among its distributors and customers with the opening of its Singapore-based UR Application Showroom, two years starting from January 2016.

eCommerce is the Sub-Sector To Watch Out for in 2016

Jan 27, 2016 - KL -

iPay88 Sdn Bhd, an NTT Data company, as well as the Malaysian-based leading provider of online payment service and payment solution provider in ASEAN, today shares some of its insights into the country’s upcoming Services Industry’s sub-sector of eCommerce.

Chan Kok Long, Executive Director, iPay88

He says, “From the transaction patterns and volume recorded from our systems, it is highly indicative that this Services sub-sector is poised for strong growth in 2016. In fact, within year 2015 of iPay88 operations, the total value of eCommerce transactions recorded in our payment systems have increased by 100%.”

Chan says, “Malaysia is ripe at the timing whereby the domestic market demand is well-supported by wide and stable online connectivity and broadband solutions. Additionally, website provider services are in abundance, IT security technologies, as well as ample government-lead, financial payment policies and initiatives to support more Malaysian companies in moving their business online.”

“Doing business online offers a lower cost of operations from many aspects – the biggest advantage being the capability to span across geographical borders, meaning that you can reach out to possibly more lucrative overseas market easily,” he says.

Paragon Software Announces Storage UFSD SDK for UEFI

Jan 27, 2016 - FREIBURG, Germany -

Paragon Software Group, the technology leader in data security and data management solutions, announces the release of its Universal File System Driver (UFSD) software development kit for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). The new SDK expands the possibilities for system management and security software vendors working in UEFI environments. The technology allows system vendors and motherboard manufacturers to make their UEFI systems more competitive and user-friendly.

Introduced by Intel in 2005 as a replacement for the aging MBR (Master Boot Record) and PC BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) interfaces, UEFI now comes standard on new computers, where it is positioned between the operating system and firmware stacks. Despite advantages over traditional BIOS and MBR, UEFI is technically limited by its support for FAT32 (File Allocation Table), an outdated file system, which restricts file sizes to less than four gigabytes. In an effort to address this problem, motherboard manufacturers have started to implement read-only NTFS support into their UEFI firmware — but this only solves half of the problem.

With the release of UFSD SDK for UEFI, Paragon Software now delivers a complete read/write solution. Based upon the company’s industry-proven, cross-platform Universal File System Driver library used around the world in billions of devices such as smartphones, tablets, routers, networked storage, and cameras, the new SDK opens transparent, full read/write support for Windows-native NTFS, Linux-native ExtFS, and other file systems in the UEFI pre-boot environment.

Paragon’s UFSD drivers work through the "simple file system protocol," allowing software developers familiar with UEFI system calls to utilize the same APIs already used for FAT32 to access NTFS and ExtFS volumes. Developers can now put more focus on the workflow and usability of their programs, rather than worrying about low-level storage functions.
