Brocade Global Study Reveals More Than Half of IT Teams Will Struggle Due to a Lack of the “Right” Skills

Apr 26, 2017 -

Brocade today announced a new Global Digital Transformation Skills Study, which aims to uncover how well-placed global IT leaders consider themselves and their teams to be in terms of meeting current and future business demands. Of the six markets surveyed, Germany was found to be the best prepared to meet its digital transformation goals, closely followed by the U.S., while the UK lagged well behind its counterparts.

The research, which surveyed 630 IT leaders in the U.S., UK, France, Germany, Australia, and Singapore, indicates that many organizations are at a tipping point, as new technology demands are set to outstrip the skills supply. Organizations that address this now through additional skills training will be in the strongest position to ensure business growth and competitive advantage.

Overall, an encouraging 91 percent of global IT leaders acknowledge that IT departments are currently recognized as very important or critical to innovation and business growth. However, over half (54 percent) predict they will struggle with a lack of IT talent in 12 months. Contributing factors identified from the research include skills shortages, prevalence of outdated skills, lack of commitment to training at the corporate board level, and the rapidly changing technology environment.

Unlocking greater possibilities with Next-Generation Access Control Solutions

By Weijin Lee, Regional Director, Secure Issuance, HID Global, Asia Pacific and Alex Tan, Director of Sales, Physical Access Control System, HID Global, ASEAN

The security landscape continues to evolve in new and complex ways. Gone are the days where the term “access control” means a simple lock and key system. Access control, instead, conjures images of sophisticated, integrated systems with multi-layered security across multiple facilities. Organizations today face challenges from the adoption of new technologies, escalating security threats and the need to derive greater value from access control infrastructure, while solving increasingly complex system integration. This is no easy task, further complicated by the expansion of digital lifestyles and creation of a smart ecosystem of wearables.

As security remains a critical front-line defence for organizations across industries and company sizes, what protective measures can businesses take today? Here are four key tips that companies should consider when implementing the next generation of access control systems.

Data: The Heartbeat of Info-Driven Businesses

By Owen Taraniuk, Vice President of Asia Pacific, Commvault

The human heart beats more than 100,000 times daily and close to 40 million times per year — chalking up three billion heartbeats in a person’s lifetime. Much like the human heart, data is what keeps the digital and customer-led economy pumping.

Owen Taraniuk, VP of APAC, Commvault

Studies have shown that companies utilising data-driven insights to make strategic decisions have improved their productivity by up to 33 percent. At the same time, the big data and analytics market has exceeded IDC’s predictions by over 50 percent with the analyst group now expecting to see worldwide revenues reach nearly $187 billion by 2019.

The writing is on the wall – businesses need to leverage data to conquer today’s disruptive age and stay ahead of the curve. CEOs know this but the question that is keeping them up at night is: how?

Huawei : Digital divide is now a digital chasm

Apr 18, 2017 - Shenzhen, China -

Huawei is back with their Huawei Global Connectivity Index (GCI) 2017. The fourth annual study shows how countries are progressing with digital transformation based on 40 unique indicators that cover five technology enablers: broadband, data centers, cloud, big data and Internet of Things. According to some of the findings, digitally-developed economies around the globe are continuing to progress due to larger investments and adoptions in ICT. At the same time, digitally-developing economies have also started to accelerate their growth by investing strategically in ICT capabilities and their digital transformation journeys – yet the gap between the two continues to grow.

Malaysia made a notable improvement from 2015, climbing five positions in the ranks. This is an outcome of the government’s aggressive investment to improve its international bandwidth, 4G coverage and Cloud over the past three years. This significant increase can also be attributed to citizens’ increased in usage and improved experience with ICT. The overall ICT strategy that brings these activities together has enabled Malaysia to increase the contribution of its Digital Economy sector to account for 17% of its national economy in 2016, one of the highest in the world, according to the Department of Statistics of Malaysia.

In retrospect, almost all businesses in Malaysia are still using fax machine which many are conventional type - latest fax machines are usually hybrid type which combines fax via telephony channel or Internet.

And etherFAX is the wrapper for all that - it is analogous to cloud based contemporary fax machine.

EtherFAX caters three methods of faxing:

I.) From your email such as gmail - send your email to

II.) From MS Office - send your documents to etherFAX online fax printer.

II.) From etherFAX web site known as etherFAX web console.

Three trends to watch in 2017: B2B2X, Video Service Providers & Customer Experiences

Ian Watterson, Managing Director of Asia Pacific, CSG International

Goodbye 2016, hello 2017.

The telecommunications landscape is set to see a drastic transformation this year as the industry continues to transform its business models and services to better serve the digital consumer. In Singapore, we will see the entry of the nation’s fourth telco, TPG. Companies like TPG represent the future of telecommunications in Singapore – in line with service providers looking to transform their business models to better serve digital consumers - while managing traditional networks and systems. With TPG being the first digital-only operator, such service providers will provide consumers with greater price competitiveness and customer experience over its competitors.

Ian Waterson, Managing Director, APAC, CSG International

Digital services to consumers on-the-go are reaching an all-time high, and the entry of TPG is certainly timely. 2017 may just be the year when we see such “B2B2X” business models – digital services delivered to any number of end-users, including enterprise, retail, partner, suppliers or end consumers – contribute significantly to a service provider’s revenues.

Here are three emerging trends that will shape the communications services landscape in the coming year.

IPTV Piracy: The Fight Against a New Breed Of Pirates

By BroadcastAsia2017 International Conference speaker, Pablo Argon, Senior Director Technical Strategy, TV Platforms, Media Solutions at Ericsson, on the fight against IPTV piracy

There has never been a better time for TV entertainment. According to most predictions, content for TV is only going to boom from Hollywood to Bollywood. However, despite the success of the media and entertainment industry (M&E), there is the persistent and menacing trouble of online pirates who illegally access content and distribute them via direct downloads from websites, torrents sites, and streaming services. IPTV piracy isn’t a new phenomenon, but with the production in mass of premium content such as 4K, HD with HDR and with new business models for online content distribution (over-the-top streaming, early window release), its market share has started to threaten the revenue of legal pay TV operators.

The omnichannel imperative to win today’s consumer

By Zachary King, Vice President, Commercial (Asia), MediaMath

Marketing has long shifted from siloes defined by media channels to an approach that puts the consumer first. It is a long-term investment that requires time and resources to better understand consumer behaviour and needs. If done well, the returns are happy and loyal customers with vastly more efficient media spends. The right message, to the right customer, at the right time has long been the holy grail of consumer-first marketing.

It is no secret that customer-centric marketing is the key to unlocking, enhancing, and retaining a relationship with customers. A recent Walker study found that customer experience will overtake price and product as the key brand differentiator by 2020. Customer retention, especially, is crucial as 80% of a company’s profits will come from 20% of one’s existing clientele.

However, in a dynamic marketplace where customer tastes and preferences are constantly evolving, what is the best approach to omnichannel execution? In this article, Zachary King, Vice President, Commercial (Asia), MediaMath, discusses why businesses must develop an omnichannel approach using a unified and integrated solution that will better align on customer needs and experiences.

IBM X-Force Finds Historic Number of Records Leaked and Vulnerabilities Disclosed in 2016

Mar 29, 2017 - CAMBRIDGE, MA –

IBM Security today announced results from the 2017 IBM X-Force Threat Intelligence Index which found the number of records compromised grew a historic 566 percent in 2016 from 600 million to more than 4 billion. These leaked records include data cybercriminals have traditionally targeted like credit cards, passwords and personal health information, but IBM X-Force also noted a shift in cybercriminal strategies. In 2016, a number of significant breaches related to unstructured data such as email archives, business documents, intellectual property and source code were also compromised.

The IBM X-Force Threat Intelligence Index is comprised of observations from more than 8,000 monitored security clients in 100 countries and data derived from non-customer assets such as spam sensors and honeynets in 2016. IBM X-Force runs network traps around the world and monitors more than eight million spam and phishing attacks daily while analyzing more than 37 billion web pages and images.

“Cybercriminals continued to innovate in 2016 as we saw techniques like ransomware move from a nuisance to an epidemic,” said Caleb Barlow, Vice President of Threat Intelligence, IBM Security. “While the volume of records compromised last year reached historic highs, we see this shift to unstructured data as a seminal moment. The value of structured data to cybercriminals is beginning to wane as the supply outstrips the demand. Unstructured data is big-game hunting for hackers and we expect to see them monetize it this year in new ways.”
