Notice of Termination of RAN Share Agreement with Maxis

U Mobile has notified Maxis that it is terminating their RAN share agreement. The termination will be completed by December 2018. Kindly refer to the statement from U Mobile below:

With our growing subscriber base, U Mobile has decided that it will be more appropriate to focus on expanding our own network, especially with the additional spectrum of 2x15MHz of 1800MHz bands and 2x5MHz of 900MHz bands that were awarded by the government last year. The additional 1800MHz was made available on 1 April 2017 whilst the 900MHz will be made available on 1 July 2017. We are currently upgrading our owned networks progressively to support these new spectrum bands so that our customers can enjoy an enhanced network experience when the spectrum bands are turned on and the upgrade is complete.

This notice to terminate the RAN share agreement is not expected to impact our customers’ network experience or our service quality to our customers. We expect to be able to replace the RAN share sites within the stipulated timeline as we continue with our planned network investment program. U Mobile customers can look forward to an enhanced network experience and coverage once the exercise is complete.

What is Automated Open Source Risk Assessment Solution

I got this from Flexera Software newsletter - quite interesting though.

More than 50% of the codebase in most commercial software packages is open source. Most organizations typically know less than 10% of what is actually used.

Scan Your Build for OSS Vulnerabilities

FlexNet Code Aware integrates into your build process, scanning your product for security and intellectual property (IP) compliance risk -- before you ship. It's just one more way to reduce security headaches down the road. And when you combine FlexNet Code Aware with InstallShield or InstallAnywhere -- or any other installer -- you've got a head start on a user-friendly, error-free installation.

Be safe and make FlexNet Code Aware a standard part of your build process:
  • Perform fast, automated scans of your products in seconds
  • Quickly identify the number of open source and third party packages with security and IP vulnerabilities
  • Assess your level of operational risk

The Digital Future of Manufacturing: Are Asian Manufacturers Ready?

By Prasad Satyavolu, Head of Innovation, Manufacturing & Logistics, Cognizant

Industry 4.0 is characterised by the interconnection of highly intelligent cyber-physical systems, to create the “Internet of Things”. Today, it is changing the face of manufacturing globally, promising increased productivity, lower costs and greater customer satisfaction. But despite the massive shift in value chain configurations and consumer preferences reshaping the manufacturing sector in the last decade, less than half of manufacturing sector leaders in Southeast Asia believe they are ready to take advantage of Industry 4.0. Why are manufacturers not fully embracing digital and Industry 4.0?
Prasad Satyovolu, Head of Innovation, Manufacturing & Logistics, Cognizant

Traditionally, Asia has been known as a cost-effective manufacturing hub thanks to its vast labour pool. While manufacturing and design quality improvements have come a long way, next-generation smart connected products pose new challenges for the entire ecosystem. A combination of legacies in operations, information and product technologies, and manufacturing culture needs to be thoroughly re-evaluated in this changing context.

Several Asian manufacturing hubs in areas ranging from automobiles to smart phones and consumer electronics have done well to create world-class products. As the advantage of labour arbitrage recedes, newer paradigms of productivity, operational visibility and risk management are needed for Asian manufacturers to stay competitive. Asia is well-placed to maintain its hub status if the region’s manufacturers quickly move to adopt a digital mind-set. By integrating the best of the physical and digital worlds, and getting rid of their traditional approaches to maintaining competitiveness, Asian manufacturers can fully capture the benefits of digital.

But first, three old ways of thinking must be rooted out. These include being reluctant to invest strategically in digital, fearing automation, and not understanding the importance of securing data effectively.

Cloudera Launches Altus to Simplify Big Data Workloads in the Cloud

May 29, 2017 -

Cloudera, Inc, the provider of the leading modern platform for machine learning and advanced analytics, announced the release of Cloudera Altus, a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering that makes it easier to run large-scale data processing applications on public cloud. The initial Altus service helps data engineers use on-demand infrastructure to speed the creation and operation of elastic data pipelines that power sophisticated, data-driven applications.

Data engineering applications like ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) or batch scoring are often large, batch-oriented workloads that run for a fixed period of time and help companies extract critical insights from raw data. Organizations can gain significant flexibility and efficiency advantages by running these pipelines on elastic infrastructure. Enterprises want to leverage cloud infrastructure alongside familiar large-scale data processing tools and technologies.

The Cloudera Altus Data Engineering service simplifies the development and operations of elastic data pipelines; putting data engineering jobs front and center and abstracting infrastructure management and operations that can be both time consuming and complex. Altus also reduces the risk associated with cloud migrations. It provides users with familiar tools packaged in an open, unified, enterprise-grade platform service that delivers common storage, metadata, security, and management across multiple data engineering applications.

Get Data Recovery Skills or Be “Taken” by Ransomware

By Chris Gondek, Principal Architect, Commvault

Imagine if your data was “taken” but instead of panicking, you instantly became Liam Neeson from the movie “Taken”. The coolest, toughest character ever imagined, who dealt with his own ransom situation – without paying.

Chris Gondek, Principal Architect, Commvault
WannaCry; a ransomware campaign with unprecedented scale, hit around 200,000 systems across 150 countries. Asia is no exception, with reports of several businesses affected by the attack.

Ransomware, and other malicious software, is estimated to cost the Australian economy about $1 billion a year. In Britain, WannaCry has crippled the health system – with stroke victims unable to undergo urgent surgery because their scans could not be accessed – and affected other businesses around the world.

When Ransomware Hits: Three Options for Data Recovery

“Ransomware” is increasingly becoming the number one cause of data loss for businesses. Software security has become more resilient to cyber-attacks, but what happens (and it does happen a lot) when the security systems fail and are bypassed by a simple phishing attack, or a patch not applied?

When ransomware hits your business, you have three choices:
  1. Give up, cut your losses and start again? For most businesses, this is not really an option as you can’t just write off potentially business critical data that is held in the attack. At the same time, you need to bring systems back to a working condition and often data is key to this
  2. Pay the ransom!? Who knows, you might get your data back, and once you have paid, they know who to target again – repeatedly until the software evolves to become “extortion ware”
  3. Channel your inner Liam Neeson, and tell the ransom-holders that you have a particular set of skills… skills you have acquired over a very long career… skills that make you a nightmare for data extortionists
