PR - Sep 30, 2016 - Scuderia Toro Rosso Extends Sponsorship Agreement with Acronis

Scuderia Toro Rosso and Acronis, a global leader in hybrid cloud data protection which partnered with the team in occasion of last week’s Hungarian GP, are very pleased to announce the extension of the agreement to a new long-term partnership, designed to reach new heights in racing and technological product development. Founded in September, 2003 in Singapore by CEO Serguei Beloussov, Acronis is the first Singapore principle company to sponsor a team in the world’s premier racing series.

The new partnership will lead to rapid innovation, increased safety and enhanced performance during races and off the track.

Scuderia Toro Rosso produces up to 700 GB of data every race weekend. Hundreds of sensors with multiple data points monitor the cars, providing real-time information, which is immediately analyzed and used through the race to improve performance. The data is also transferred to Toro Rosso’s base in Faenza, Italy, where a support group of engineers and data analysts use it for car improvements and new race strategies.

Scuderia Toro Rosso is an R&D powerhouse, which analyses massive amounts of data and fine-tunes cars for each new race, depending on previous history and the current track condition

PR - Sep 29, 2016 - Canvas Creates Industry’s First Mobile Annotation Capability for Best-in-Class Learning Management

Canvas, the open online learning management system (LMS) from Instructure that makes teaching and learning easier, is announcing the immediate availability of a new annotation feature in its mobile application. This makes Canvas the only LMS to provide this capability, which streamlines the process of distributing and completing digital assignments.

As schools become increasingly digital, teachers and students are often faced with many disparate online tools that can force convoluted, confusing processes for downloading and uploading. Hence, this new annotation feature allows work to be completed inside Canvas, reducing a 20+ step process to three steps by allowing students to open, annotate, and submit an assignment directly within Canvas.

With the support of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Microsoft Malaysia today showcased the latest in education solutions that are used to digitally transform traditional classrooms today.

Ybhg Prof Madya Dr Arham Abdullah, Director, Division of Industry Relations at Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) emphasized the importance of technology in the 21st century education landscape. “The Ministry aspires to create a higher education system that can set a global example and that enables Malaysia to compete in the global economy. Players like Microsoft are frontrunners in enabling innovations and transforming the way education is imparted. We will continue to partner with them to construct a system that is less focused on traditional, academic pathways and places an equal value on much-needed technical and vocational training to increase employability,” he said, adding that MoHE was actively pursuing technologies and innovations to address students’ needs and enable greater personalization of the learning experience.

Echoing Nik’s sentiments, Dr Kalai Anand Ratnam, Senior Lecturer & Technology Specialist, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation, demonstrated some key Microsoft technologies that have transformed his classroom into a platform for collaborative learning. One such tool is Microsoft’s Skype for Business — part of Office 365 for Education — enabling communication and collaboration from almost anywhere at any time on any device.

PR - Sep 28, 2016 - MyIX Records New High Point of 170Gbps for Internet Data Exchange in Malaysia

For August 2016, Internet data exchanged that transversed (or ‘peered’) over the National Internet Exchange nodes reached a new high point of 170.474 Gbps – the highest ever recorded in the country’s history. The latest figure reflects a year-on-year growth of 57% and Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 56.60% since 2012.

MyIX Chairman, Chiew Kok Hin says, “Throughout 2016, peak points for each month have exceeded the 100Gbps mark. This is not surprising given Malaysia’s current Internet landscape which is driven by improved data plans, mobile Internet, video content, Cloud computing and not forgetting more companies agreeing to peer with MyIX. In 2016, we had 5 more companies joining the peering network.”

PR - Sep 27, 2016 - Openreach Selects Huawei to Help Deliver G.FAST Ultrafast Broadband in the UK

Openreach, BT’s local network company, has selected Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, to help it deliver the first phase of its G.FAST deployment in the UK. The agreement is part of a programme that will bring ultrafast broadband speeds to 10 million UK premises by the end of 2020 using the technology.

The agreement follows the successful trial of G.FAST in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire announced in 2015. By using Huawei‘s latest multi-port G.FAST equipment, Huawei helped Openreach provide two thousand homes and businesses with access to speeds of more than ten times the UK average.

The speeds on offer will allow people to stream live ultra-high definition 4K video content to multiple devices at once, all whilst simultaneously browsing the web, uploading videos and photos, or playing online games. The deployment of G.FAST will enable businesses to utilise new services that rely on high performance and high availability networks to be accessed more widely.
