KUALA LUMPUR, 21st May 2008: With the collaborative aim of sharing common goals in the area of ICT development such as smart school, e-business, e learning and knowledge-based businesses, the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and the Korea Institute of Electronic Commerce (KIEC) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU will set the pace for accelerating economic growth of both countries, joint explore of cooperative projects and co-accessing global markets. Potential cooperative projects and programmes are expected to focus on the exchange of information and experts through joint research and development projects, marketing advancement through strategic alliances and cross marketing, promoting and enhancing the development and uptake of smart school projects, and cooperation in model creation, standardization conformance, interoperability methodology, quality assurance, and test bedding.

The MoU with KIEC, a Korean governmental agency, with focus on e-learning, e-business and knowledge-based business environments, will further strengthen the solid ties between the two countries and is a stamp of acknowledgement on the bodies’ significant role in the development of ICT in the respective countries.

The collaboration between MDeC and KIEC will carry a significant impact on the relevant companies as the expected value of the cooperation is estimated at USD$3 million with nearly 2,000 new jobs.

The MDeC – KIEC MOU exchange of document is among the 13 exchanges of MOUs witnessed by the Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak at the end of the 3-day 16th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) jointly organized by MDeC and the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (PIKOM).
