Success for SAS-EON Bank Group Knowledge Discovery Challenge

Leading business analytics solutions provider SAS Malaysia, and EON Bank Group is proud to conclude their first joint academic-based CSR project,SAS-EON Bank Group Knowledge Discovery Challenge (“SAS-EON Bank Group KDC”) which kicked off two months ago.

This inaugural competition, which focuses on developing homegrown talent in data-mining (analytical) skills amongst tertiary students, attracted a total of 30 teams of which the top five qualifying teams were invited for the final round of judging at the Sunway University College this morning.

The teams were provided with a sizeable volume of simulated banking customer data, and using the SAS® Enterprise Miner™ analytical tool to gain insights, would devise the best marketing strategy to boost a virtual bank’s deposit provision by 15 per cent.

The winning teams received cash, training vouchers and other rewards worth more than RM50,000. In addition, the 1st prize winners Young DMiners from Universiti Teknologi Mara will be offered permanent employment under EON Bank Group’s Management Associate Programme, a training and development programme that fast-tracks candidates into management positions at the Banking Group.

Meanwhile, the 2nd prize and 3rd prize winners were LOGOS of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and JCH from Sunway University College, respectively.

According to Jimmy Cheah, Managing Director of SAS Malaysia, the teams had to engage in challenging real-life business situations through the ‘virtual bank’ simulation.
