AIMS Achieves 30% Increase in EARTH HOUR Power Savings

Megawisra Group of Companies (MSB) that comprises AIMS Group of Companies (AIMS) and Global Transit Group of Companies (GT), announces an increase in its power conservation by 30 percent during the recent Earth Hour 2011 ‘Go Beyond the Hour’ drive on 26th March 2011, as compared to what was achieved during its similar Earth Hour participation in 2010.

A total of 137.45kWh – power equivalent to have about 500 washing machines running simultaneously for an entire hour, was conserved; contributed mostly from the AIMS’ data center at Menara Aik Hua, located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

According to Chief Executive Officer of AIMS, Chiew Kok Hin, last year MSB recorded savings of 109kWh of power and donated RM10 for every kWh saved to World Wildlife Fund, the organizers of Earth Hour. AIMS, the country’s only carrier-neutral data centre, has joined taken part in the global Earth Hour initiative since 2009 - during which they managed to conserved 73kWh.

“AIMS is in a business whereby efficient power and energy management are core elements to sustain our 24x7x365 commitment to our clients.”

“Even as we (recently) added another building level to expand our immensely power-critical business of running data center facilities and equipment, we continue to take part in Earth Hour as it is an important testimony to being exemplary in being responsible to Mother Nature.”

Besides Earth Hour, AIMS makes it a point to implement as much ‘green’ technology as possible to ensure continual usage of sustainable power in its data centers.

“Our facility is configured to be environmentally-friendly such as the use of very energy efficient lightings, extremely dense supplement cooling and cold aisle containment to ensure high efficiency coolly, nature-friendly fire suppression gas, as well as structured cabling system for space optimization and prevention of air blockages,” shares Chiew.

“This concept of integrating Earth-friendly elements is indeed becoming a crucial factor for AIMS to remain as the premier server farm and outsourcing host of choice in this region,” says Chiew, adding that the data center has attained the ISO 27001:2005 certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI) in 2010. The Information Security Management System of AIMS satisfies the rigorous independent audits, with the adequate and proportionate security controls to protect the data and servers for over 250 of its clients.

AIMS Updates

AIMS currently has two Data Centers, located in Kuala Lumpur and Cyberjaya. “In line with our expansion plans, we are building 2 additional data centre floors in Menara Aik Hua with a total lettable area of 10,000 square feet.” says Chiew.

“We are also aggressively acquiring clients such as providers of search engines, airlines, online job recruitment portals, online ticketing, financial institutions, education and more. AIMS has underpenetrated the financial service institutions, oil & gas companies, and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) markets and we’re targeting them”

In the area of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), AIMS is also has in the pipeline some activities such as an upcoming Blood Donation Drive with the National Blood Bank, as well as a Treasure Hunt to raise funds for the less fortunate.

“We want to continue marketing that AIMS is not just any Data Centre, but we are a place where people can dream bigger. Our CSR activities, such as our yearly Earth Hour participation - is an important part of our being the premier Data Centre in South East Asia,” he ends.
