IBM announced that it received a record 6,478 patents in 2012 for inventions that will enable fundamental advancements across key domains including analytics, Big Data, cybersecurity, cloud, mobile, social networking and software defined environments, as well as industry solutions for retail, banking, healthcare, and transportation. These patented inventions also will advance a major shift in computing, known as the era of cognitive systems.

Jan 8,2013 - InMobi Acquires Overlay Media

InMobi, the leader in mobile-first technology platforms, and the largest independent mobile advertising network, announced the acquisition of Overlay Media, experts in context aware computing.

Overlay Media, which comprises of a team of data scientists, have built the Context Engine technology to deliver personalised content to mobile users. Jan 8,2013 - WeChat Advertises on Malaysian TV Network to Acquire Untapped Market

WeChat, the touted all-rounder social messaging application created by China’s Tencent, plans to expand its users in Malaysia’s growing market for smartphone application with its first TV commercial on Malaysian screens beginning this 7th January 2013. WeChat’s growth will soon hit 300 million user accounts milestone globally this January 2013 after hitting its whopping 200 million mark just four months ago.

“We intend to increase the user adoption in Malaysia through this very first WeChat TVC airing in Malaysia and continue to gain momentum here on top of the already well-developed base of users,” said Louis Song, Country Manager of Malaysia and Singapore in Tencent’s International Business Group. “Malaysia is a very strong market like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Thailand – we are witnessing a strong growth in mobile application platforms.”

Jan 8, 2013 - Windows 8 sales steady, hit 60 mln since October launch

Microsoft Corp has sold 60 million licenses and upgrades for its new Windows 8 operating system in the 10 weeks since its launch, one of the top executives of the company's Windows unit said at the Consumer Electronics Show on Tuesday.

The latest Windows 8 figure means Microsoft sold around 20 million Windows 8 licenses and upgrades since the end of November, when it announced 40 million sales in the first month on the market.

HP announced the HP FlexNetwork Utility Advantage Program enabling communication service providers (CSPs) to offer managed network solutions on a pay-per-use basis,creating new revenue opportunities without capital investment.

Enterprises spend more than 70 percent of their IT budget keeping the lights on, leaving less than 30 percent for innovation.(2) However, they need to invest in network upgrades that support initiatives like cloud, mobility, bring your own device (BYOD) and rich media, which drive innovation and business growth.

The HP FlexNetwork Utility Advantage Program enables CSPs, in collaboration with HP, to help enterprise customers modernize their network with standard, prepackaged networking solutions, including hardware and software, with no upfront cost.
