Yokogawa Partners McAfee to Enhance Security of Industrial Control Systems

Yokogawa Electric Corporation and McAfee announced the signing of a partnership agreement to offer holistic and value-added IT security solutions for the industrial automation world.

According to Nobuaki Konishi, VP of Yokogawa's IA Systems Business Division (IA Platform Business HQ), the partnership will allow Yokogawa to combine their technology and plant security know-how with McAfee’s technology to enhance the security of products and other line-up of security solution services covering the entire lifecycle of our customers’ plants.

It will include the integration of anti-virus software with industrial control systems used in the process industries.

Meeting Demands

Such collaboration is considered to be timely for today's environment when cyber-security has reached a level of non-compromise and mission critical with advent of APT (advanced persistent threats) which threatens business entities.

While the industry is much ado about costs-saving,interoperability and open platform via general-purpose IT - it has resulted in proliferation of security vulnerabilities.

Organizations tasked with running critical infrastructure such as oil and gas pipelines, chemical plants, power stations, and water treatment facilities must look at holistic security systems across two disparate, yet interconnected zones, enterprise IT and industrial control systems.

Since industrial process control systems would typically have longer lifecycle than typical commercial systems; 3 to 5 times - hence automation system suppliers must embrace a lifecycle approach to industrial cyber security.

This is something new for the industry.

Whether in combat training, board rooms or classrooms, gaming can add much to our daily lives. We can meet new people and increase our knowledge and abilities as we enjoy a change of pace from our daily routines. The following article has video game suggestions and tricks that you can apply today.

Try downloading a game demo prior to purchasing the actual game so that you can determine if you're going to enjoy it. Previewing a game can help you see whether you wish to buy the full version or not. Be careful, though, where you download the game from. Only download from a well-known site to avoid problems with your computer.

Instead of a computer, try a regular games xbox system for your kids gaming pleasure. It is easier to control things like privacy and content on a playstation than it is on a PC. They may have a much more protected experience with a wii.

Make the screen brighter. If you can't see the game, you won't be able to play well. You may find that you're frequently being attacked because you can't see. Increase the brightness so you do not miss anything, even if it ruins the dark atmosphere of the game. It will make the colors easier to distinguish and you'll be able to spot your enemies before they spot you.

If you have children, be sure to limit the time that your child spends on video games. More than two hours a day can strain their eyes and interfere with other activities.

Utilize the security and parental control tools offered by most games. You may want to see if this game can be played online. If so, limit your children's Internet access. Also, keep an eye on the requests for friends and how much time they can play.

Today, there are a lot of online games where you may be asked to purchase something with real life currency if you want to get more out of it. Make sure to evaluate these purchases quite carefully. They may not do much to improve your game-playing experience on one hand. While that is true, they may save some time.

It may sound simple purchasing a new game; however, it can be quite a difficult decision. You can waste money on bad games if you don't do your research. Read reviews on the Internet to see how good a game is before you make a purchase.

Rather than spending money on a new ps3, consider playing your favorite games on your computer. Many games, especially ones that have been out for a while, are avaiable to be played free online. This allows you game play at a much lower price.

All games have ratings thanks to the ESRB. Games are appropriate for ages 3 and older if they receive an EC or Early Childhood rating. If your children are six and older, a rating of E is appropriate. A rating of E+10 is for people older than 10 years old. If your game is rated T, it is suggested that you be 13 or older to play it. "M" (mature) rated games are for people who are at least 17 years old. AO indicates the game is just for adults and RP signifies "Rating Pending."

Figure out how to operate the safety and parental controls of any gaming system that comes into your home. You can likely make adjustments that keep kids from viewing mature content. Some allow each gaming profile to be customized separately, allowing adults to enjoy games not meant for younger audiences.
