According to the Riverbed website, Steelhead xx20 series products will become end-of-life early next year. Customers with Steelhead models 520, 1020, 1520, 2020, 3020, 3520, 5520, 6020, and 6120 will be forced to upgrade to more expensive, newer Riverbed hardware products.

Kuala Lumpur, 21 May 2013 –Gartner: APAC led worldwide mobile phone sales to growth in Q1 2013

Worldwide mobile phone sales to end users totaled nearly 426 million units in the Q1 2013 out of which 210 million units = smartphones.

APAC region itself totaled 226 million units, 6.4 percent increase year-on-year and helped the region increase its share of global mobile phones to 53.1 percent year-on-year.

In terms of smartphones brand; Samsung no.1, Apple no.2 and LG Electronics no.3

It was also reported that in terms of OS, Android recorded 156 million units for Q1 2013. Earlier on during Google I/O 2013, Google reported that 900 million of Android activation (devices had been deployed) as at worldwide Q1 2013.

Kuala Lumpur, 21 May 2013 –MSC Malaysia continues strong growth with RM33.53 billion in revenue

MSC Malaysia announced revenue for the MSC Status ICT companies, which was RM 33.53 billion which was an increase of 5.7% from 2011, while exports grew to RM 11.6 billion which reflected a 14% rise from the previous year.

This resulted in MSC Malaysia’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) standing at RM11.3 billion, recording a significant double digit growth of 18% from 2011.

In the area of job creation, 9,700 jobs were created in 2012 which represented a 28% growth over 2011 bringing the total number of jobs created since inception to 128,850.
  • InfoTech Cluster - 44% (RM 14.66 billion)
  • Shared Services and Outsourcing (SSO) cluster- 31% (RM 10.45 billion)
  • Creative Multimedia cluster - 21% (RM 6.99 billion)
  • Institutions of Higher Learning and Incubators cluster- 4% (RM 1.44 billion)

The Shared Services & Outsourcing Cluster led job creation in 2012 with 7,388 new jobs, accounting for 76% of total new jobs.

According to information from Outsourcing Malaysia (OM), SSO business activities include IT services, shared services and business process outsorcing (BPO), regional headquarters, research and development (R&D), training and environmental management.

Malaysia ranks top 3 as the preferred location globally where over 130 Shared Services & Outsourcing companies in MSC Malaysia are responsible for establishment of over 250 call centres in the country as at Oct 2012. These companies include the likes of ACS, BMW, DHL, HSBC, IBM, Intel, Motorola, Nokia, Shell and Unisys.

Reuters, May 19,2013 - Yahoo's board approves $1.1 billion Tumblr acquisition: WSJ

Reuters reported that Yahoo Inc's board has approved a deal to buy blogging and social networking site Tumblr for $1.1 billion in cash.

This is good news for bloggers. And it shows that blogs presents a big deal for big data. To me, it is the future of media when currently it comes under the category of social media.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 17 May 2013 – Copy “Copies” Google to offer 15GB of Free Cloud Storage

Copy is the latest online cloud storage space provider to join companies like Dropbox and Google in the cloud storage industry.

90 days since its public debut, Barracuda Networks Inc. today announced that it will be increasing the amount of free cloud storage space for Copy from 5GB to 15GB. Since its launch Copy has attracted nearly half a million users worldwide and is rapidly growing in numbers.

“Copy’s ‘No Limit’ Referral programme lets users earn 5GB of additional free storage space both for themselves and the referred user. On average our users are earning well over 60GB of free storage, with the largest referrers earning space in the 10s of TBs,” adds said Thiban Darmalingam, the Regional Manager for Barracuda in Malaysia.

It also cater for “Fair Storage for All” initiative, which allows users are to ‘split the bill’ for shared folder. For instance, if 3 users shared a folder which contains 12 MB, then each users will then share the size, which is 4MB.
