Jul 23, 2013 - Cisco Announces Agreement to Acquire Sourcefire
The acquisition of Sourcefire adds a team with deep security DNA to Cisco and will accelerate delivery of Cisco's security strategy of defending, discovering, and remediating advanced threats. With world-class research teams, increased intelligence and expanded threat protection, customers will benefit from continuous security in more places across the network.
Under the terms of the agreement, Cisco will pay $76 per share in cash in exchange for each share of Sourcefire and assume outstanding equity awards for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $2.7 billion, including retention-based incentives. The acquisition has been approved by the board of directors of each company.

Oracle Malaysia today announced the availability of latest generation of the world’s #1 database, Oracle Database 12c in Malaysia during a media briefing session at Oracle Malaysia’s Mid Valley office this afternoon.
Kaleem Chaudhry, Senior Director, Enterprise Technology, Oracle ASEAN shared the new Oracle Database 12c introduces a new multitenant architecture that simplifies the process of consolidating databases onto the cloud and it also enables customers to manage many databases as one without changing their applications.
Multi-tenancy differs from multi-instance - a common thing in database technology - where it works more like a client-server environment and the server virtually partitions the data and configuration within the same BIG instance.
Multi-tenancy is the alternative way of doing multi-instance. But why do that when multi-instance is available ? The answer is here; what it means is that assuming you run a server with Oracle database and would like to serve multiple customers, what normally would follow is that you would create for each customer an instance of database.
With multi-tenancy, there is no need to create multiple-instance of the database, you just have to do partitioning from existing BIG instance of the database, each partition for different customers.
Hence, the steadfast answer is instead of INSTALLING new instance for each customer, now you just have to CONFIGURE it, which is much faster and simpler and economical - it suits the model of hosting database for cloud applications by cloud platform providers.
