PR - Oct 14, 2015 - LASER COMPONENTS Detector Group has introduced two new IR detectors: IG19 and IA35

The IG19 is a new x-InGaAs photodiode with a peak wavelength at 1.75 μm. Thus, it is ideal for applications that cannot be fulfilled spectrally with a regular InGaAs photodiode. The IG19X1000S4i with a 1 mm chip diameter in a TO-46 housing is the standard product.

IA35 describes a heterostructure photodiode on an InAs substrate with a relatively wide peak at 2.8 μm. The curve of the spectral response can be seen in the figure. The IA35S500S4i is available. This detector with a 0.5 mm chip is designed especially for uncooled operation and a spectral range of up to 3.5 μm (20% cut-off).

PR - Oct 14, 2015 - ARMONK, NY - IBM Expands Data Discovery and Q&A Power of Watson Analytics

Today IBM introduced new data discovery and question-and-answer capabilities for Watson Analytics that will make it even easier for users to extract insights from their data. IBM also announced widespread adoption, with half a million business professionals registering for this groundbreaking data exploration and visualization service since its introduction less than a year ago.

Watson Analytics’ rapid ascent into one of the most popular self-service analytics platforms in the world has been fueled by its unique ability to put cognitive capabilities into the hands of business users, and enable a new era of unbiased analysis. IBM Watson Analytics helps individuals unlock the value of data they already have in their systems, as well as new valuable external data sources they may not even know they need.

Ventana Research recently recognized IBM Watson Analytics as the leader in Business Analytics with its Technology Innovation Award. The awards recognize the technologies that have had, or have the potential to have, the most striking positive impact on business.

In collaboration with 10 industry partners, IBM is introducing new data discovery models – called Expert Storybooks – that help guide users on how to understand, learn and reason with different types of data sources to surface the most relevant facts and uncover patterns and relationships for predictive decision making.

For example, the Twitter Storybook will help users analyze social media data from Twitter to measure reputational risk, and also get a better understanding about how social sentiment could reveal drivers behind fluctuations in stock prices in real time.

PR - Oct 13, 2015 - WD to Transition WD Green HD Models Into WD Blue Family

WD®, a Western Digital Corporation company and a worldwide leader in storage solutions, will be transitioning WD Green® hard drive models into the WD Blue® family of drives. The company is simplifying the hard drive selection process for customers by streamlining its model families for mainstream PCs to only the WD Blue line.

All currently shipping WD Green models will remain available through their lifecycle, as they transition to the WD Blue label. WD Black® models will remain in the PC drive family, yet designed for high-performance applications such as gaming and workstations and for those building high-end systems for creative professionals.

“The market for mass storage has expanded broadly beyond the PC,” said Margaret Koh, Sales Director, Asia South, WD. “Every application for storage requires different hard drive attributes for optimal data recording and preservation, and every drive WD designs has a specific purpose. What can be easier for customers than matching a color to their application? Moving forward, they will only need to know whether they are building PC, high-performance, NAS, video surveillance or datacenter systems.”
