PR - Jul 17, 2017 - Google’s “Performance Honors” celebrates local agency heroes in Malaysia for creative and impactful work in Search ad campaigns

Google celebrated creativity and best practices in the area of Search ad campaigns at an awards ceremony designed to shine a spotlight on interesting Search campaigns run on Google during 2017. This is the first “Performance Honors” that have been awarded in Asia-Pacific, and is a culmination of a series of Performance Guru workshops that Google ran for their agency partners over the last four months.

Consumers are turning to Search across critical micro-moments multiple times a day to get things done. For instance, according to one of our latest research studies, 76% of baby care consumers conduct research before buying a product, and 61% of them turn to Search. Search ads help millions of businesses worldwide connect with consumers in these moments, but none of that would be possible without a well-managed campaign. Practitioners and planners are working hard behind the scenes to create the best possible campaigns for their clients. Creating and running AdWords campaigns is often carried out by agencies, so this award is designed to recognize and celebrate their incredibly important work. We hope it inspires others to follow their example.

Here is the full list of awards and winners:
  • The “Industry Rising Star” honor was given to: SearchGuru’s Jason Lau, who not only showed an innovative approach & ability to deliver results for his client CatchThatBus, but has also actively sought to make others within the industry more knowledgeable via trainings and newsletters. The “Innovative Performance Advertising Campaign” honor was given to OMD Malaysia for their McDonald’s “Countdown to Iftar” campaign, which
  • was one of the first campaigns to use Search Countdown Ads in Malaysia. By tailoring their messages by time of day, they were able to ensure relevance with their audience which drove excellent results for McDonald’s.

Quann - Jul 4, 2017 - Malaysian companies are unprepared for cyber attacks

The inaugural Quann IT Security End User Study 2017 was recently conducted by Quann, a leading Managed Security Services Provider in Asia Pacific, and research firm IDC to understand the cyber security strategies of organisations as well as their preparedness and vulnerability to cyber attacks. The survey covered 150 senior IT professionals from medium-to-large companies based in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Among the startling results of the survey was how almost all (96%) of the surveyed Malaysian companies are in the early stages of security preparedness. In fact, more than half (52 percent) of the Malaysian respondents do not have a Security Operations Centre to monitor their networks and security devices for suspicious traffic while almost half (48 percent) of them have not conducted any form of IT security awareness exercise.

Foo Siang-tse, Managing Director of Quann
Mr. Foo Siang-tse, Managing Director, Quann, points out that the findings are worrying but they don’t come as a surprise. The lack of investment in security infrastructure, professional services and employee training makes them extremely vulnerable to attacks such as the recent WannaCry and Petya ransomware incidents.

While basic IT security features such as firewall and antivirus are widely deployed by the Malaysian companies surveyed, almost half (46 percent) of them do not have Security Intelligence and Event Management Systems to correlate and raise alerts for any anomalies.
