Jul 16, 2019 - OPPO To Accelerate Global Innovation Through Its New R&D Center in Chang’an

OPPO, a leading global smart device brand, has announced at a ground-breaking ceremony that it will establish a new research and development center at Chang’an Town, Dongguan, Guangdong province, China – to accelerates and boost its R&D capabilities.

OPPO’s new R&D center in Chang’an is also one of Dongguan’s major initiatives to drive the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and it is expected to employ 5,000 R&D personnel upon completion.

OPPO will spend RMB 10 billion (approx. US$1.46bil) on R&D this year. As a global R&D center for the company, OPPO’s new R&D center in Chang’an will be responsible for the research and development, design and testing for a range of smart devices, including smartphones and IoT products.

Jul 16, 2019 - MyIX’s Internet Traffic Grows 70 Folds over Ten Years

Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX), also known as ‘Persatuan Pengendali Internet Malaysia’ - the largest Internet Exchange (IX) in Malaysia, shares that just over five months into Year 2019, the MyIX network recorded a new highest traffic peak point of 412 Gbps in May 2019.

This is compared to Year 2018’s highest traffic peak point record of 391Gbps; and which also represents traffic increases of over 70x from 5.8Gbpsrecorded 10 years ago in Year 2009.

Currently, MyIX connects all major ISPs, datacentres and content providers - representing up to 105 different networks. This includes 27 foreign players which have set presence in the country, including almost all the top International content providers such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Akamai, Amazon, Alibaba, Cloudflare, Limelight, Tencent and Imperva.

The latest member additions to MyIX include Lynuxtel Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Felda Prodata Systems Sdn Bhd, Innet Technologies Sdn Bhd, Datakl Solutions Sdn Bhd, Strateq Data Centre Sdn Bhd and Jastel Network Co. Ltd.

MyIX is undergoing network upgrade which will be completed by Aug 2019.

Jul 16, 2019 - Kaspersky : Turla hacking group hides malware in anti-internet censorship software

Kaspersky researchers have discovered that the Russian-speaking threat actor Turla has revamped its toolset: wrapping its famous JavaScript KopiLuwak malware in a new dropper called Topinambour.

Researchers believe these measures are designed to minimize detection and precision target victims. Topinambour was spotted in an operation against government entities at the start of 2019.

Topinambour (named after the vegetable that is also known as a Jerusalem artichoke) is a new .NET file that is being used by Turla to distribute and drop its JavaScript KopiLuwak through infected installation packages for legitimate software programs like VPNs for circumventing internet censorship.

Jul 15, 2019 - Australian Space Agency signs world-first agreement with Adelaide startup Myriota

Myriota has become the first Australian startup to sign a Statement of Strategic Intent with the Australian Space Agency; outlining plans to deliver sensor connectivity for lunar and planetary exploration missions as part of the agreement.

Myriota has also outlined plans to:
  • Expand its current constellation to 25 satellites by 2022
  • Host 10 internships per year across the business to encourage interest in STEM, with a particular focus on growing female involvement in technology companies
  • Grow the number of employees from 25 to over 50 by 2022
Jul 15, 2019 - AdNovum’s NEVIS Security Suite now FIDO certified

Swiss software company AdNovum’s NEVIS Security Suite has passed the FIDO UAF interoperability tests with its authentication server and is now FIDO UAF certified. This is a milestone for the NEVIS Security Suite that has been integrating secure and convenient mobile authentication based on the FIDO standard since autumn 2018.

With FIDO, companies benefit from standardized authentication solutions that can be introduced cost-effectively and extended to include new, stronger authentication methods such as fingerprint or face recognition. The FIDO certificate assures NEVIS customers that the product meets the specifications and that it can be combined with FIDO components of other vendors. This ensures maximum flexibility and a high level of investment protection for customers.

FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) is an open industry standard for secure, fast and simple online authentication.

Jul 15, 2019 - Mumbai and Kigali - TCTS and Smart Africa Alliance set to bridge the skills gap for next-generation technologies in Africa

Tata Communications Transformation Services (TCTS), today announced the launch of its pioneering Skill Africa Program, in association with the Smart Africa Alliance. The revolutionary program will address the skills shortage in the technological industry and chart the way for the future of telecoms and IT infrastructure in Africa.

The intensive training program will cover a range of next-generation technologies and help future-proof the telecoms and IT infrastructure in Africa. The Skill Africa Program will see approximately 150 engineers from across Africa being trained on a variety of next-generation technologies including Cyber-security, Internet of Things, Cloud, Big data, Robotics and Smart Cities.
