Aug 6, 2019 - Bern - Maximilian von Reden Appointed to GM of Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & THE SPA
Today, Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & THE SPA announced the appointment of Maximilian von Reden to General Manager of the historic hotel. The 45-year-old will take over from Iris Flückiger on 5 August 2019, who after more than eight years at the Schweizerhof Bern has accepted a new position abroad.
Before moving to the capital city of Switzerland, Maximilian von Reden led the 5-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Prague as General Manager. Previously, he held roles throughout Asia as General Manager of the Mandarin Oriental in Jakarta, as well as the Mandarin Oriental in Tokyo and The Portmann Ritz-Carlton in Shanghai. A veteran in the hospitality industry, von Reden also has extensive management experience in food and beverage operations, including positions at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and The Peninsula in Beijing.
Maximilian von Reden said he will make good of his 14 years of experience in Asia to bring about innovative concepts to his new employment.

Tencent Wukong AI defeated professional players in an exhibition match during the semi-finals of the “Honour of Kings” World Champion Cup (also known as KCC). Tencent Wukong AI applies Tencent AI Lab's latest research in strategic and collaborative AI in the popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game, “Honour of Kings”. This victory advances Tencent Wukong AI to the next level and demonstrates its ability to solve more complex challenges at the level of professional players.
The Tencent Wukong AI name implies “deep understanding and comprehension” and refers to a research project from Tencent AI Lab to explore new frontiers for strategic collaborative AI with deep intensive learning.
Aug 5, 2019 - Bangkok - Pomelo refreshes sustainable Purpose line's supply chain with recycled PET fabric and clothing donation initiative
A survey by YouGov found that 50% of all APAC consumers believe businesses are responsible for ensuring that their supply chains do not harm the environment.
Omnichannel Southeast Asian fashion brand Pomelo introduces Recycled PET (RPET) fabric from supplier EcoMax to its production processes for its third Purpose collection. The RPET material used in this collection was made from 21,775 100% post-consumer PET bottles that would otherwise enter landfills or pollute natural habitats.
Purpose, Pomelo's sustainable line, aims to bring awareness to the importance of building sustainable fashion futures. Along with the use of RPET material, organically-sourced fabrics and natural dye higher up in the supply chain, the brand encourages high-value reuse through clothing donations and redistribution.
Pomelo customers can drop off used clothing at select partnered locations and offline stores, or schedule free pick-ups by scanning a QR code stitched into their Purpose products. All collected clothing is then redistributed to underprivileged partner communities, organisations and charities in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.
Aug 5, 2019 - SWS Capital Buys 51% in Data & Robotics Firm Mata Aerotech
Malaysian plastics and furniture manufacturing company SWS Capital Bhd has exercised its option to purchase a majority 51% share in the drone and robotics technology firm MATA Aerotech Sdn Bhd., propelling its business into a worldwide market which PwC predicts will be valued at $127 billion by next year.
SWS will pay RM4.725 million in cash for 3,442,500 shares in MATA Aerotech, following its option agreement earlier this month with local IT company Nexus Union Sdn Bhd.
SWS' purchase in MATA Aerotech comes as commercial drone usage has hit mass adoption globally, driven by the integration of artificial intelligence and advanced machine learning algorithms.
