Sep 24, 2019 - ISOC Commentary on EU Google Privacy Case

Previously in a 2014 ruling, the European court of Justice ruled that anyone with ties to the European Union could request that search engines such as Google and Microsoft's Bing service remove links about them, under certain circumstances. Now, the same judges must decide if that privacy decision should be limited to within the EU's borders, or if search engines are required to remove that information from results anywhere in the world.

Dr. Konstantinos Komaitis, Senior Director, Policy development and Strategy at the Internet Society commented that the implications of this decision could have far reaching consequences on the way the Internet operates and how users globally experience the Internet. Decisions such as the Google privacy case that apply extraterritorial jurisdiction can result in negative and unintended consequences.

Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading everyday super app, today announced its ‘Grab for Good’ social impact programme that aims to empower people in Southeast Asia to gain critical access - some for the first time - to technology, upskilling and digital services. This will allow them to be part of the fast-growing digital economy and have more choices and opportunities to improve their livelihoods.

Grab announced two flagship initiatives under its “Grab for Good” programme; a skills training and digital literacy partnership between Microsoft and Grab, and a regional “Break the Silence” initiative, that enables the deaf and hearing-impaired to better participate in the digital economy through the Grab ecosystem.

Sep 24, 2019 - HackerOne : Millions of Malindo Air & Lion Air passenger records breached and exposed on Web forums

Following the recent Malindo Air and Thai Lion Air breach with 21 million records breached including name, date of birth (DOB), passport number, passport expiry and mobile numbers, it is another example to show that data privacy is increasingly threatened.

Aaron Zander, Head of IT at HackerOne, commented that leaving a server exposed without any protection is one of the most basic and embarrassing security failings but still these breaches continue to happen across the board. When it comes to securing the data of ever more informed consumers, the basics of security need to be covered at a minimum.

Sep 23, 2019 - CyberSecurity Malaysia Protects Sensitive Data with Trusted BlackBerry Software

BlackBerry Limited and CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) announced today at the 11th Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference and Exhibition (CSM-ACE 2019) that the cybersecurity agency has deployed trusted BlackBerry software to protect the country’s most sensitive information, enable secure mobile working and accelerate digital transformation.

The Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, Dato' Ts. Through this partnership, CSM will be deploying the BlackBerry solutions, BlackBerry® Workspaces and the BlackBerry® Enterprise Mobility Suite (including BlackBerry® Unified Endpoint Manager or UEM), to provide a seamless and secure working environment for all agency staff, contractors and other third-parties whilst ensuring compliance with Malaysia’s Data Leakage Protection framework (DLP).
