Kuala Lumpur, Feb 28, 2013 - All Aboard the BlackBerry 10 App Challenge Malaysia

BlackBerry® launched a challenge for developers, both experienced and budding, to build BlackBerry®10 applications for Malaysians. Winners of the app challenge will win cash prizes as well as BlackBerry® smartphones. The BlackBerry® 10 App Challenge Malaysia is part of the BlackBerry and MSC Malaysia Integrated Content Development (ICON) programme, run by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) collaboration.

The BlackBerry 10 App Challenge Malaysia will have two categories for teams to compete in. Cash prize* totalling up to RM15,000 and three BlackBerry Z10 smartphones await the winners of the Open category while under the University Students category, participants stand a chance to win RM9,000 cash* and three BlackBerry Z10 smartphones as first prize*. Two second prizes winners* and five consolation prizes will be announced for each category and these winners will receive cash prizes.

Oracle today announced the general availability of NetBeans Integrated Development Environment (IDE) 7.3.

NetBeans IDE 7.3 features advanced HTML5, JavaScript and CSS development capabilities, for faster and easier rich Web and mobile application development.

The new release improves support for the Java platform with feature enhancements including new hints and refactorings in the editor and improved support for editing FXML layout files in JavaFX projects.

It also provides new support for profiling Java applications on Linux ARM based systems, such as the Raspberry Pi. NetBeans IDE 7.3 is available for download here.

ComputerWorld, KL, Feb 4, 2013 - Malaysian university to wholly specialise in computer science

ComputerWorld reported that the Universiti Malaysia of Computer Science and Engineering (UniMy) has been launched.

With current temporarily campus in Cyberjaya, UniMy is envisioned as university devoted to offering computer science and engineering courses.

UniMy currently offers an integrated 1+3+1 Computer Science and Engineering programme starting from Foundation, Bachelor of Science and Master of Science. The first enrolment for Foundation Studies is expected to begin in May while enrolment for Undergraduate Programmes is scheduled in September 2013. Two undergraduate programmes - a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering - are available and admissions to the degree programmes are also open for registration to candidates with A-level, STPM, and diploma or equivalent qualifications.

AMD today announced that the newly launched Gizmo board, a low-cost board geared toward x86-based embedded system development available from GizmoSphere, is powered by an AMD Embedded G-Series Accelerated Processing Unit (APU). Gizmo is a 4-inch by 4-inch x86 development board that can run a variety of operating systems including Android, Linux®, RTOSes and Windows®.
