Microsoft today announced that the latest Surface Pro X can now be pre-ordered from 9th January 2020 in Malaysia via commercial authorised resellers and authorised retailers. With prices starting from RM 4599, the Surface Pro X will be officially launched in the market on 17th January 2020.

The thinnest Surface also stands out with a virtually stunning, edge-to-edge 13” touchscreen, and comes equipped with LTE connectivity.

The device is powered by the all-new, custom Microsoft® SQ1™ processor developed in partnership with Qualcomm, creating a device that enables an incredible combination of pixels, performance, thinness, battery life and constant LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity. The device also comes equipped with removable solid-state drive (SSD) options, as well as dual 4K video output via USB-C.

Jan 8, 2020 - Callum Eade appointed as new VP Sales, APJ Commvault

Commvault today announced the appointment of Callum Eade as Vice President of Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ). Based in Singapore, Eade will drive the company’s growth objectives across Commvault’s diverse markets in Asia-Pacific. His appointment builds on Commvault’s leadership momentum which reinvigorates the company’s strategic vision for innovation and global growth.

Eade joins Commvault at an exciting time. with the company’s recent acquisition of software-defined storage specialist Hedvig and the launch of Commvault’s new SaaS-based venture Metallic. He joins Commvault with over 20 years of sales and business development experience, and was most recently Vice President, APJ for the Software Defined Center at VMWare, where he had established and rapidly grew one of its most successful segments.

Jan 8, 2020 - Singapore - Silver Peak Appoints Ian Whiting President of Global Field Operations

Silver Peak announced the appointment of Ian Whiting to the role of president, global field operations. Whiting will lead direct and indirect sales, sales operations and all aspects of the company’s go-to-market strategy for channel and service provider partners.

Prior to Silver Peak, Whiting served as president of Ruckus Networks where he led worldwide sales, marketing, services and support during a time when the business doubled in size. Prior to that, Ian served in senior executive roles at Egnyte, Fusion-io, Riverbed, Brocade Communications and Compaq Computer. Ian holds a degree in French and German from the University of Wales and a master’s degree in European business management from Cranfield University.

  • Autonomous driving - “Safety Cocoon” represents a safe-zone concept in which supports vehicle safety in various daily driving situations by detecting 360 degrees around the vehicle, enabling early preparation to help evade risk.
    • A total of 33 sensors including CMOS image sensors and ToF sensors are embedded within the vehicle, in order to detect and recognize people and objects inside and outside the car, and provide highly advanced driving support.
  • 5G - Sony conducted a proof of concept trial in December 2019, by capturing video of a live American football game with a 5G-connected camera, showing how 5G can allow for more creative and untethered camerawork while also reducing set-up time and costs
  • Sports - AI-based Real-time Video Analytics - the athletes’ postures and the flight path of the ball are instantly analyzed, and CG characters will mimic the movements based on estimations of the athletes’ postures by deep learning technology

Jan 6, 2020 - Tune Protect Nurtures Orang Asli Communities

TUNE Protect Group Berhad (Tune Protect) sets out the year with the next phase of its Financial Literacy, Empowerment & Entrepreneurship programme called FLEE. It is a flagship programme started since 2018 for Orang Asli communities with the aim of supporting and encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones and venture into entrepreneurship as a way out of poverty. Since then, the FLEE programme has successfully benefitted Orang Asli communities from 5 different tribes and states

The FLEE programme is a 3-phase programme which consists of 3-day bootcamps carried out in close collaboration with Majlis Belia Orang Asli (MBOA). The all-inclusive bootcamp welcomes the participation of Orang Asli youths from any tribe, village and state. MBOA assists participants to follow through with their new learnings from the bootcamps when they return to their respective villages. It is hoped that these Orang Asli youths will also inspire other youths in their villages to improve their livelihood through entrepreneurship.

Throughout the programme, the Orang Asli youths are introduced to four practical concepts which include EARNING through entrepreneurship; SAVING for business expansion and for rainy days; SPENDING on living essentials and necessities; and PROTECTION against mishaps that may occur.
