Jan 9, 2020 - Kaspersky : Mystery shopper: malicious app spreads fake reviews thanks to in-app accessibility service abuse
As winter sales are hitting the stores, both users and brands need to be wary. When choosing shops, users rely heavily on reviews, while retailers increase their promotion and advertising budgets. Kaspersky researchers detected a Trojan application that terrorizes users with unsolicited ads and boosts installations of online shopping applications – fooling both users and advertisers.
This malicious app visits smartphone app stores, downloads and launches applications and leaves fake reviews on behalf of the user, all while hiding itself from the device owner.
The Trojan, dubbed ‘Shopper’, first drew the attention of researchers following its extensive obfuscation and use of the Google Accessibility Service. The service enables users to set a voice to read out app content and automate interaction with the user interface – designed to help people with disabilities. However, in the hands of attackers this feature presents a serious threat to the device owner.
Once it has the permission to use the service, the malware can gain almost unlimited opportunities to interact with the system interface and applications.

Jan 9, 2020 - Check Point Research Reveals Multiple Vulnerabilities in TikTok
TikTok, a video application, available in over 150 markets, used in 75 languages globally, and with over 1 billion users, has definitely cracked the code to the term "popularity" across the globe. As of October 2019, TikTok is one of the world’s most downloaded apps.
Given its popularity, and the sheer volume of people (most teenagers and kids) using it, is TikTok secure enough?
Check Point Research, the Threat Intelligence arm of Check Point Software Technologies, a leading provider of cyber security solutions globally, revealed today that it found several vulnerabilities in the TikTok application.
The research found that an attacker could send a spoofed SMS message to a user containing a malicious link. When the user clicked on the malicious link, the attacker was able to get a hold of the TikTok account and manipulate its content by deleting videos, uploading unauthorised videos, and making private or "hidden" videos public.
