Tetra Pak Announces ‘Recycle Easy’ microsite

Press release - Jul 31, 2014

Tetra Pak also announced that they have launched its first ‘Recycle Easy’ microsite. Designed with geo-location technology, consumers, businesses and schools will be able to locate their nearest drop-off points or commercial collection centres across Malaysia on their computers, tablets or smart phones.

The ‘Recycle Easy’ microsite makes public collection points easier to locate, thereby increasing accessibility. To date, we have 20 collection partners providing 366 collection points in the country and this number is growing. We hope for more Malaysians to actively recycle, now that it’s easier to do so.

Tetra Pak Malaysia today released the statistics of drink packs recycling in Malaysia through a set of infographics. Survey findings are taken from Tetra Pak’s Value Chain Study on used drink packs recycling and GfK Roper Reports Worldwide, which together covers over 1,400 Malaysians in 2013.

Disney Tsum Tsum Mobile Game and Soft Toy Line Launch Globally

This is quite interesting to me because it shows how one can sell something through a game developed on top of a social media platform.

Disney on Jul 10, 2014, announced the launch of “LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum”, the top-ranked and free puzzle app from Japan, on mobile devices globally, along with a Disney Tsum Tsum stackable soft toy line. The app, which is published by LINE, the leading free call and messaging app, has reached the #1 free app spot on both iOS and Android in Japan and has been downloaded more than 14 million times. Coinciding with the global launch of the app, Disney Store is introducing more than 30 different stackable ‘Tsum Tsum’ toys available on, in select store locations in North America, and at Disney Parks starting today.

TV strikes back: rise of digital devices drives new viewing habits

Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), a leading market research and market information group released results of its study of over 55,000 internet users worldwide. Connected Life, the team that led the global study, explored how technology transforms the lives of consumers across the world and discovered that the rise of digital devices has led to new viewing habits.

One of the findings showed that almost half (48%) the people worldwide who watched TV in the evening simultaneously engaged in other digital activities, such as using social media, checking their emails or shopping online. APAC is ahead of this trend, with 54% of individuals across the region taking part in ‘screen-stacking’ activities, such as using social media, checking their emails or shopping online whilst watching TV. This varies across the region, peaking at 79% in Japan and coming in at just 37% in China.

FICO : Artificial Intelligence Infographic

I thought this is interesting, the infographic published by FICO a leading predictive analytics and decision management software company revealed how the company has leveraged on Artificial Intelligence in its products to deliver intelligent solutions for broad range of problems.

The infographic explores the similarities in 4 main examples:
  • Neural networks that use connections between bits of data to detect payment fraud in real time, as used in FICO® Falcon® Fraud Manager, which protects 2.5 billion payment card accounts worldwide;
  • Deep networks that use multiple layers of data processing to recognize human faces and speech;
  • Neuro-dynamic programming that improves areas such as conversational virtual agents in travel bookings, by continually recalculating the optimal action to take as new data becomes available;
  • Cyber analytics that protect computers from hackers by recognizing control relationships between two entities (e.g., “victim” computer and “hostbot” computer).

Citrix: What is the next generation networks ?

According to a published press release by Citrix, the next generation networks should be a fully automated, broadly dynamic network infrastructure, capable of accommodating virtually any requirement users throw at it.

At least that is what Mark Micallef, Area Vice President, ASEAN opined.

Mark Micallef, Area Vice President, Citrix ASEAN

The article narrates that non-SDN networks are fragile not because they work inefficiently, they are also rigid and not scalable. As a result, every small requirement users throw at it requires huge efforts and planning for roll-out.

Therefore, managing non-SDN networks tends to be more costs intensive trading-off the so-called conventional stability.

When such is the reality, misconfiguration may convolute the entire networks and costs more money.

To solution is to make the network more app-aware and app-focus - do not treat every application with the same policy and priority.

In other to do that, Mark Micallef recommended 4 steps:

PIKOM ICT Job Market Salary 2013 Reports and 2014 Outlook (Malaysia)

Based on a press release presented by PIKOM in collaboration with MDeC.

Salary increased by 7.2% from RM 6,673 in 2012 to RM 7,152 in 2013.

This upward trend is projected to increase by 8.7% to RM 7,776 by 2014.

The figure of RM 7,152 was derived from the gross of average of summation of average salary from 5 different groups of employees: fresh graduates, junior executive, senior executive, middle management and senior management.

In my personal opinion, this figure is not just accurate, it also serves as a good benchmark for the ideal salary for the ICT industry.

Due to the nature that the senior management group sits on top of the pyramid, it means that high flyers would have earned more than this figure while those in the SMEs should aim for this amount.

I also think that if you are going on a self-employed mode, this is a good benchmark of the money you should earn for yourself in other to level with others, especially when it comes to compete with those who work in multi-nationals.

Hence, we thank PIKOM for this yearly report.

The biggest pay masters are still oil and gas companies whilst the best paid job is project manager - the lowest paid job remains as web designer.

Another important fact to take note is that companies with more than 2000 employees tend to pay close to 2 times more than a company with less than 10 employees - for the same job capacity.

This explains why many in Malaysia tend to become self-employed and therefore it gave rise to the SME economic nature of the country.

Finally, job skills in growing demands are those related to numeracy, statistics and analytics.
