Children and the Internet: the Problem of Undesirable Content

By Kaspersky Lab

Based on the article Children online: the security formula by Anna Larkina, Senior Web Content Analyst at Kaspersky Lab

Every year more and more children go online. Most parents are perfectly aware that there are sites that contain pornography, show images of violence, promote drug taking, and show other undesirable content. However, not every parent can imagine which particular categories of such undesirable sites children tend to visit most, or how often. So Kaspersky Lab decided to find out by analyzing the Internet search patterns of young users.

Ten categories of undesirable website content were chosen for the investigation, as follows: pornography and erotica, illegal software, narcotics, cruelty and violence, strong language, weapons, gambling, anonymous proxy servers, payment systems, and online games.

Top 4 Best Fantasy World Cup Sites Reviews

By Rachel Lee - an independent digital media specialist.

The FIFA World Cup is undeniably one of the biggest sporting events on earth, followed - no, celebrated - by hundreds of millions across the globe, thus attracting fans of its fantasy games as well. Fantasy football (or soccer) is best said to be fans’ avenue to draw up their best XI, and effectively manage their teams. It is tricky to figure out the best fantasy provider (besides football giant FIFA themselves) that has the most offerings, so here is a look at some fantasy football games you may want to try:

1. FanXT Fantasy World Cup & Prediction Game

FanXT.com, although relatively new in the fantasy games arena, has got a lot to offer. Their game Fantasy World Cup (http://fantasyworldcup.fanxt.com) welcomes World Cup fans with a Rio-inspired interface. A fantasy manager chooses 15 players (11 starters, 4 substitutes) to fill out the roster for each game round and they all accumulate points based on players’ statistics, with help from injury report, weekly graph analysis, performance table and upcoming matches. There doesn't seem to be any prizes offered for now (although rumours say they are revealing soon), but, for those who love the game, this fantasy football World Cup 2014 game is certainly a solid choice with virtual medals and manager badges. Available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian and Chinese languages, the game also supports captaincy, substitutes, formation options, dream team, transfers history; as well as ease of use like instant team creation, team auto-completion, player search and sorting undo changes, in addition to live scores, fixtures, and standings.

The game has thorough social media integration, enabling users to login, like, invite friends via Facebook (allowing users to earn extra budget) and share team performance; as well as Twitter and Google+ share options. A World Cup Prediction game (http://goo.gl/hzS9qW) is included in-site, which challenges users to predict the outcome (including the score) of all 64 matches.

Jack Ma (Alibaba) is my virtual mentor

I read from Vulcan Post that Jack Ma, the successful China's foremost e-Commerce giant Alibaba's founder, gave us tips on how to become successful in starting up a business.

According to the web site, Jack Ma gave three important advises:

1.) Your attitude is more important than your skills.

2.) As a leader, not everybody will follow your directives. The solution is to steer the team through a common goal than with orders.

3. ) If you had decided to start own business or do own things, please always remember that you will not have stable income until you have made it.

Good Intention Doesn’t Always Win a Date

I jumped to the conclusion that I would make myself available (at all costs) to attend this event even though I was invited late – for one simple reason: I wanted find out who is who in the Intellectual Property (IP) world of Malaysia.

On 20 May 2014, the Malaysian Intellectual Property Association (MIPA) held a conference, National Intellectual Property Convention (NIPC) 2014, with the theme ‘Harnessing IP towards High Income Nation’ at Istana Hotel, KL.

Being a software developer working towards making my first pot of gold in the area of IT software innovation, I was hoping that the event will provide me a crashed course about the lucrative world of intellectual property business, technology patent in particular.

What I was met with wasn’t all too bad, even though in reality, I didn’t see any venture capitalist talent scouting around; instead I was surrounded by bunch of lawyers and so-called IP agents.

COM Interop - ActiveX component can't create object

While performing COM Interop integration, you may encounter the exception 'ActiveX component can't create object' on deployment machine.

It is due to missing class ID (CLSID) in Windows registry which will reference to the library file - i.e DLL file - required by your program.

1.) To find out which CLSID is missing, simulate the process using Process monitor.

CommVault: Driving through the Third Platform with a single platform

In response to the contributed article by CommVault entitled Driving smart data management in the ‘third platform’ era.

Here are the summaries:

Basically, the third platform is referring to the trend of Big Data, cloud, mobility and social; as compared to 1st - mainframe and 2nd - PC.

The third platform major challenge : data growth - third platform will increase the burden of IT departments which will cut through business profits because they have a role in finding new customers, handling escalating operations costs, and innovating to retain competitive edge.

Sub challenges:

1.) Complexity of data management strategy

2.) Optimization of secondary storage tier

3.) Security - the need for a single platform which performs consolidation of all data in a single repository, which improves visibility, thus benefiting the organization in the case of lost data or leakage.

The article recommends enterprises to adopt CommVault’s single platform solution, Simpana, can effectively help to address ongoing data management requirements which effectively performs protecting, archiving, replicating, searching, and locating data.

In my opinion, the SME is likely going to be the biggest winner when it comes to adoption of third platform. The reason is because enterprises usually have larger budget to manage multi-vendor environment and would take longer time to adopt a trend.

When it comes to SMEs, everyday is about gmail, google drive, dropbox, social networking and etc.
