Why would someone use a .ML domain in Malaysia?

Positioned as the new Malaysian domain, Dot ML is expected to be well received by Malaysia’s 20 million online user community and SME organisations. Domains can be easily registered at and with most Malaysian Internet Service Providers or Web Hosting Providers.

Dot ML has a clear relevance to MaLaysia. Domains are simple and easy-to-remember.Just like CULTURE.ML represents a website about Malaysia and its culture. Furthermore the domains are free of charge, the registration process is one of the fastest in the world and there are no restrictions regarding which companies can register which domains. Plus the domain names are far simpler and less complicated than the .MY/.COM.MY/.NET.MY/.ORG.MY system. Dot ML domains ensure registrants’ websites can be found easily on the Internet. This combination of speed, simplicity, flexibility and relevance has never been available in Malaysia before.

FanXT Launched Fantasy Soccer with Football Association of Malaysia

Press release: Jan 20, 2015 - K.L

Malaysian soccer fans now have the joy to assemble a strong first eleven consisting of their own home ground heroes. Just Mobile Sdn Bhd, also known as FanXT (Malaysia MSC Status Company) in collaboration with Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have officially launched the much awaited FAM Fantasy Soccer based on the Malaysia Super League. The development of the game is supported by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), who are also known as SKMM through the Content Industry Development Fund (CIDF) grant that was awarded to Just Mobile back in 2013. It’s a creditable effort by FAM to essentially be aware of the rising interest that football followers embrace on the game where Malaysians are expected to get smitten with this swiftly burgeoning online game. Over the years, tremendous support is offered to FAM for being the utmost pillar for the growth of national football.

The evolving workforce of the 21st Century

MDeC shares insights on how a younger and more digitally-savvy workforce is changing the way we work.

The number of youth in the workforce continues to increase, thereby shaping the landscape of work today and the years to come. According to the ‘Millennials at work: Reshaping the workplace’ study by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) conducted in 2011, millennials will form 50% of the global workforce by 2020. The continued influx of a new generation of workers will definitely bring new capabilities and outlook to the current workforce, influencing the way things are done and changing the dynamics of the workplace.
Sumitra Nair, Director, Youth Community & Initiative, MDeC

Sumitra Nair, Youth Division Director of MDeC said “The current digital competency of Malaysian youth will continue to greatly impact the workplace of the 21st Century. According to the ‘Measuring the Information Society 2013’ report by International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Malaysia was ranked fourth highest in terms of percentage of digital natives globally, as more than 70% of our youth have had at least five years of exposure to the Internet. This advantage, when harnessed appropriately, will serve to steer the nation towards becoming a fully-developed digital economy, with the youth continuing to play a leading role in this.”

The trends are:
  1. Tech-Driven Youth
  2. Personal vs Professional Goals- work life balance
  3. More Job Opportunities - entrepreneurship as alternative career option
  4. Dispelling the Myth: Millennials lack work ethics- the need for digital work ethics

Wing Cloud Builds State-Of-The-Art Data Center on Brocade Cloud Networking Foundation

Press release: 30 Jan 2015 - K.L.

This news is pretty interesting to me because it touches on best practices.

The Guizhou Provincial Government has set a target to develop the provincial capital, Guiyang, into one of China’s top-tier hubs for cloud computing and Big Data by 2020, by leveraging infrastructure such as abundant hydropower and well-developed transport links. To align with this initiative, Wing Cloud High Technology Ltd (Wing Cloud) - a cloud computing service provider, was established last year with the aim of becoming an innovation hub for the province, and invested an initial 300 million yuan (US$48 million) to build an 8,800 square-meter data center that can support up to 12,000 servers and multitenant cloud computing operations.

In order to build an Ethernet fabric that could scale to thousands of ports within a single Layer 2 domain, Wing Cloud deployed a pair of Brocade VDX® 8770 Switches as spine switches in conjunction with more than 100 Brocade VDX 6710 and VDX 6740 leaf switches that provide wire-speed 1 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10 GbE top-of-rack connectivity to servers hosting virtual machines. In addition to the data center Ethernet fabric, Wing Cloud also deployed highly scalable Brocade MLXe-16 core routers to support extremely reliable and secure high-bandwidth connections to customers. The entire infrastructure is managed through Brocade Network Advisor, an easy-to-use network management platform for Brocade switches and routers across the entire network lifecycle.

All Brocade networking devices deployed by Wing Cloud support key Software-Defined Networking (SDN) protocols, including OpenFlow and VXLAN/NVGRE. The Brocade VDX 8770 switches and MLXe-16 routers also operate seamlessly under the Brocade® Vyatta Controller, a quality-assured edition of OpenDaylight and the industry’s leading open source SDN controller.

OMG - Google Docs is just too good

Google Docs is just too good - seriously.

Have you ever created a document with images using MS Word and wanted to publish it to the Internet ?

High chances you will be publishing it to a blog or site with Content Management System (CMS) using Joomla.

Conventionally, this publishing task is tedious because it requires explicit conversion of the formats of the content and the images - images must be uploaded separately to the server using FTP or the CMS administration page before linking it back to the published article.

Just yesterday, I discovered that there is a semi-automated way to accomplish this task - to leverage on Google Docs.

Oracle: Enterprise Big Data Predictions, 2015

By Christopher G. Chelliah, Group Vice President and Chief Architect, Exadata and Key Accounts, Oracle Asia Pacific

Large companies realize that the big data bell tolls for them, not just for startups. 2015 will be a big year for big data in the enterprise. Here are Oracle’s top 7 predictions:

1. Corporate boardrooms will talk about data capital, not big data.

Christopher G. Chelliah
Data is now a kind of capital. It’s as necessary for creating new products, services and ways of working as financial capital. For CEOs, this means securing access to, and increasing use of, data capital by digitizing and datafying key activities with customers, suppliers and partners before rivals do. For CIOs, this means providing data liquidity – the ability to get data the firm wants into the shape it needs with minimal time, cost and risk.

2. Big data management will grow – up.

Hadoop and NoSQL will graduate from experimental pilots to standard components of enterprise data management, taking their place alongside relational databases. Over the course of the year, early majority firms will settle on the best roles for each of these foundational components. The demand for data liquidity will compel architects to find new ways to make the full big data environment – Hadoop, NoSQL, and relational technologies – act as a mature enterprise-grade system.

3. Companies will demand a SQL for all seasons.

SQL is not just a technology standard. It’s a language based on 100 years of hard thinking about how to think straight about data. Applications, analysts, and algorithms rely on it daily to run everything from fraud analyses to freight forwarding. Companies will demand that SQL works with all big data, not just data in a Hadoop, NoSQL (Oh, the irony!), or relational silo. They’ll also demand that this big data SQL works just like full-fledged modern SQL that their applications and developers already use. This will put pressure on nascent Hadoop-only SQL to mature overnight.

Creating Concept Design Document Using MS OneNote 2013

I was exploring methods to create concept design document for software projects.

The biggest challenge is the ability to embed drawings in between texts.

For example:

A document created by hand with both handwritten text and hand-drawn diagrams
The first thing is to look for the best software. Based on this URL, I experimented with Evernote and MS OneNote.

I found that using MS OneNote 2013 works.
